HISTORY
Like so many people, I selected springer spaniels as my breed because I had one as a child.   Armed with no knowledge of the breed to speak of, I purchased my first springer from an ad in the newspaper.  I had no idea how lucky I was to find a breeder who did everything right.  I fell in love with a darling liver/white puppy and he was mine.

Chester was a very entertaining puppy and we took him everywhere we went.  Then at about 3 months of age Chester turned into a little monster.  Our next door neighbor suggested that we have him evaluated by the animal behaviorist at the Humane Society.  Off we went, and to our relief, the trainer told us that all Chester needed was to go to obedience school.  We signed up and that's where the saga begins.

Of course Chester was the "star" of his class and we were having fun,
so onward we went.  The instructor told us that we should show Chester in AKC obedience so we joined the local obedience club. Resner's Lord Chesterfield went on to earn his UD and WD.  We met other springer people and were founding memebers of the Golden Gate English Springer Spaniel Association.

Next we added a black/white show bitch from a well known breeder and named her Lexi.  At about 10 months of age we learned that Lexi was severly dysplastic in both hips.  We were heart broken.   Lexi earned her CD and then retired to become my best friend and confidant.

I really wasn't looking for another dog, but I did miss having a dog to train.  As luck would have it, I was attending a Specialty with a friend (sans dog) and was introduced to Jean and Ron Young of Devonshire English Springer Spaniels.  They needed someone to show a male puppy and I was happy to help.  I learned later that Jean and Ron had decided to place the puppy and they allowed me to take Billy home.  I still remember Jean standing at the gate with tears streaming down her cheeks as I drove away with Billy in my car.  Ch. Devonshire's Top Billing CDX, TD, NA, TT was my first "everything" dog.  He was the dog who came into my life to teach me the lesson of patience.   I will always be grateful to Jean and Ron for trusting me with this beautiful and gentle little dog.

By the time I was ready to purchase a foundation bitch, I had been in springer's for about 15 years and knew a lot about pedigrees and what I liked and didn't like.  Katie was bred by Cathy, Deborah and Ken English and I loved her from the first moment saw her at day one.  Ch. English's Satin Brocade AX, AXJ, WD, CD, CGC "Katie" has a wonderful temperament, lot's of personality and is a joy to live with.  She produced two beautiful litters and is now, at 13 1/2, the "Grand Dame" of our household.

For Katie's first litter I chose the the kennel name
"HiJinks" to reflect the happy and funny personality I feel a good springer should have.  You can see pictures of the puppies from each litter, along with their accomplishments, by going to the "Litters" page.

Along the way we have had a lot of fun and made some wonderful friends.    In the fall, we will breed our second generation of English Springer Spaniels.  We remain true to our goal of breeding beautiful , versatile and loving English Springer Spaniels.
